Youth
seminar. The day for the Young men’s
purity seminar had arrived. We did some
last minute cleaning and Charlotte started working on getting lunch ready. About 8:15 Hector arrived and we visited for
a few minutes then people started arriving fast. We had 8 boys from Ataco. Paulo and George came though they did not
teach. We also had one father to stay
for the sessions. And we had 4 teachers
with Clifton doing the introduction.
Clifton kicked it off near 9 with the introduction and puzzles for the
guys to put together without and then with the boxes to show our need for God’s
instruction. Then Ricardo did the first
session with a neat cartoon video on peer pressure. After a short break for cookies, Hector
taught on the changes the young men were experiencing in their lives at this
time. He lined 5 people up from young to
old and talked about the differences from young to old. We had a great lunch made by Charlotte with
the help of Isabella. Then Charlotte,
Isabella and Pedrito headed to Juayua.
After lunch I taught on maintaining purity and made it through in
Spanish. Of course, Clifton had done the
intro in Spanish. Then we had a 1 ½ hour break
for the guys to play some soccer. I
stayed behind and cleaned the kitchen and put the food away. About 1:30 Samuel arrived from his work. I got out some lunch for him and we visited
some. At 2:15 the guys got back right on
time and they were hot and sweaty.
Carlos did the last session on dating and then Ricardo asked the guys
what they had learned from the day and each made a pledge for their
future. It was really great and sort of
great that it was all done. After
everyone left I caught a bus to join Charlotte in Juayua. I said I did not know whether to sit away
from the driver since they are the ones being targeted or to sit near him which
always makes me feel more comfortable.
The trip was uneventful except there was an old bullet hole in the
window directly in front of me which was the front of the bus. The trash can was full and when I swapped it
out before leaving I forgot and left it on the floor. When we got home, Wicket had found it, torn
it open, scattered it everywhere and obviously eaten whatever she could
find. She threw up throughout the night
and has been passing all kinds of things including aluminum foil. Charlotte went on to Juayua with Isabel and
Pedrito to study with Nelson. I ,Charlotte, studied
with Nelson about the Parable of the Sower.
That went great and he said that he was good soil. After the study, English class started. We had all of last week’s student’s return,
so we had a houseful. The lesson was on
transportation, so we had lots to discuss with the bus strike and the gang’s
killing bus drivers. One of the students works in San Salvador. He said that one night he had to sleep on the
street because there were no buses running.
That is a scary thought sleeping on the street in San Salvador. This past week was Nelson’s birthday, so we
wanted to share a birthday cake with him.
While we were visiting, I talked to Carlos about studying too. He said that he really wanted to study, so we
are going to try to talk to him Sunday night about a time we can get together. Next, we headed to Jose and Kelly’s for a
study. Isabel had stayed for English
class and so she also joined us. She is
a great servant. Cesar led the study regarding sin and we had a good visit with
them. Usually the Saturday evening study
is at 5, but Hector is going to teach the month of August and he needed to
start at 6 this one Saturday. So, we had
lots of time to return to Sister Regina’s.
When we got there, we waited until after 6. When we called, Hector had forgotten, so
Cesar went on and led the lesson. Nelson
came, but usually Saturday night is just for members. Sister Regina did not feel well, so he
wrapped up the lesson a little early. We
headed back to Ataco, but stopped and got Clifton some Gatorade. While he had helped with a part in the
seminar, he did not go to Juayua. We are
hoping he makes a turn for the better soon.
