Ash
Wednesday. To say this day started out
with a ‘bang’ is an understatement. I
get up between 4:30 and 5 to bake, study and get going for the day. I lit the oven and prepared some bread. Then, when I opened the door of the oven, it
was only slightly warm. I didn’t smell
gas, but the oven must have been on for 10 or 15 minutes without fire, so I got
a nice fire ball. Of course, I had my
head in the oven when it exploded. I ran
in the bed room screaming for Dwaine because I was sure the kitchen was going
up in flames because of the fire ball.
It didn’t, but we had the aftermath of the explosion. All eyes of our new oven blew off. One boiler of water went everywhere. The glass blew out of the oven door, but did
not break. The whole oven moved out from
the wall about 8 inches and ash went everywhere! We have had to wipe everything down and there
is a good coating on everything for two rooms.
The good news, really only in the care of our Lord, was I only singed
the ends of my hair and my eyes immediately were read, but cleared after about
an hour. It was a scary moment. Dwaine was able to put the oven back together
and everything worked! We told the story
to several and we are amazed how common this news is. About 9 we left for our studies. Seily went to Honduras to visit her son with
a group going to a conference. So, I
joined Cesar and Dwaine for Delmy’s study.
Dwaine led this study on baptism.
Next, we went to Briseida’s, but she was out. We did walk to Wendy’s for
a short visit and invite to several studies.
Reina, who lives next door, was not home. Cesar went on to Mr. Rivas and he was home
for a study. Dwaine and I headed home
for lunch. Arnoldo did not come over,
because we headed to Shucutitan for some visits. Except a few stops to visit Edgardo and
Maritza, we had not been back with the exception of teaching a ladies class
recently. Since Socorro is away in the
States, we went first to Rosario’s. She
wasn’t home, and we were walking to cross the coffee field and she was off in
the distance with her husband coming home.
Wow, it was great we met them. We
visited about 30 minutes and she told us she had been really sick with kidney
problems. That seems to be common. Next we went by Maritza. We knew Edgardo would be out working. It was good to see her. Our next stop was Mirnda and Navidad. Navidad was walking fairly well, but Mirdna,
was not well at all. She could barely
open her eye on one side and said her face was asleep on that side. She told us her diagnosis, but we could not
translate it. When we got home we looked
it up and think it was Bell ’s palsy.
From reading, it should be temporary, so we are praying for her
recovery. Next, we went by Bessi’s mom,
but she wasn’t home. We walked about a
block in length to visit with Reina. Now
that was such a sweet meeting. She
looked in great health and kept mentioning sisters she was working with. What an answer to pray to see her involved in
the body. Next, Bessi arrived with her
mom, Marta, and mother-in-law, Isabela.
They fixed some plantains and coffee and promised to visit in
Juayua. By this time it was necessary to
head back to Juayua to get to service. We
had a good turnout of visitors and the children’s class also had a large number
for a Wednesday night.
