Feeding the
preachers. After cooking all week and
especially all day Tuesday the day had finally arrived. Charlotte got up at 4:15 to put the corn and
chicken on to cook. Then we both got
back up about 6 and started final preparations.
It took about 30 minutes just to load the car. She had 4 large pans of chicken and rice, a
large crock pot of corn, two large containers of potato salad and about 8 kinds
of fruit bread. We got there about 8:10
and as we arrived Charlotte said she had forgotten the peaches (she was going
to have peaches and cookies for desert) I told her I had loaded them and she
was so thankful. As we were entering, we realized Brother Pedro and Sister
Regina had moved all their living room furniture into the kitchen. Their bedroom is just a sheet hung to divide
a second room in their home. They had
also completely moved their bedroom into the room their three children share to
have more space. After unloading I sat up the chairs while Charlotte
worked in the kitchen with Sister Regina. During the morning Regina and I
(Charlotte) went to the mill to take the corn for grinding. It was quite a load. When we got back, she gave the dough to her
neighbor Sister Rosalidia to make tortillas.
Sister Regina and I cut and diced pineapple to make a fruit drink.
Preachers started arriving at 9 and they were given coffee and pieces of the
fruit bread to eat. At the last meeting
there were about 34 people counting me and Charlotte but this time there were 23
this time plus Regina’s family. Regina
and Charlotte worked during the entire meeting.
The preachers spent about ½ the time discussing an event to be held next
weekend in Ciudad Real to honor senior Christians. The other half was spent discussing a
difficult situation here that has been going on for several years about a
preacher who may have pocketed some money that was not his. After the meeting the preachers were served
plates of food that had already been dished up and when Charlotte realized she
had way over prepared she started piling them high. Everyone said it was all
really great and thanked us many times.
Bro. Recardo who had eaten at our
house with the Tuesday Bible study group just a week before and was still
joking with me about how much food there was had finished his plate pretty
quickly so I forced another entire plate on him since there were two or three
extra sitting around.
