English
classes have started!!! We reviewed our
first lesson and made sure we had all our materials in order and headed out to
Juayua. Our class was scheduled to start
at 10 a.m. We knew some interested
individuals had stopped by Sister Regina’s home, but we really had no idea how
many would come. At 10, I don’t think
anyone was in the door yet. But, within
a few minutes people started arriving.
We planned for a class of 16 and had advertised that students needed to
have at least 12 years of age. By 10:30
we had 16, but two only had 9 years. We
went ahead and started. The material
that Caleb and Della had left us was great. It had audio, ways to practice, exercises
galore and homework. We were going
great, when about 11:00 four college students arrived. That definitely put us over the top. We finished the class and told the two 9 year
olds that they would have to come when we could offer a younger class. While that would give us 18, we really don’t
think everyone will come back. If it
settles out somewhere around 12, that would be good. Each chapter is long and we tried to complete
an entire chapter. That would finish the
course in time for our visit to the States in September. Afterwards, we decided that we would not have
a time frame that we had to finish the book.
We thought it better to slow down some and be sure that everyone is
getting the material. We also decided to
move the class to the afternoon so we don’t have so much time before the 5 o’clock
service. Our final decision for the day
was to offer for students to stay after the class for about 30 min. to an hour
for open conversation. We think this
might give us time to start developing relationships. Afterwards, we went home for the afternoon, but drove back to Juayua for our 5:00 service. It was a good lesson. It started raining during the service, so that left us with a foggy, drizzle going home.
Ready and waiting for English class to start.
