Dentist, Immigration and missed turns. Charlotte had her appointment for finishing her
tooth crown this morning. Her
appointment was for 9 and now that we are in Juayua which is on the way to San
Salvador from Ataco we are about 20 minutes closer so we felt it would be an
easy 1 ½ hr. trip. We left the house
about 7:30 but when we got to Sonsonate we got stuck in traffic for about 20
minutes because of a high school race through the city streets. We still got to San Salvador about 9:20 but I
somehow managed to miss a turn I had already made several times in the
past. When you miss your turn in San
Salvador it is not easy to get back to where you want to be. We had to pull off the street and look at the
city map one time. We finally made it
about 9:30 but they appeared to have no one waiting for a turn and took her
right on back. This time was short and
fairly painless for a change and by 10 we were on our way to immigration. Again we missed our turn and had to find our
way back by studying the map and hoping.
On the way Charlotte said she had forgotten our passports but we had our
id cards so we went on over. They were
really uncrowded so the lady at the front said she would fill out our change of
address forms for us (one for each) but we still had to go to the back to have
them registered and to sign. Again we
did not have to wait at all in the back and it was quick. We were only there about 20 minutes and they
never mentioned passports. That was
amazing. Next we went to Wal-Mart and at
least found it with no problems. We got
some groceries and some items for the new house. They had an upstairs cafeteria so we decided
to try it out. It was really reasonably
priced but not really all that great.
Our last stops were to be a large hardware store Cesar had recommended named
Freund and a pharmacy stop to get Charlotte some Synthroid because we had not
been able to find any in Ahuachapan. We
tried to follow the map according to what Cesar had told us but somehow missed
again and actually found ourselves on our road out of town. I asked Charlotte if she just wanted to go on
home but she said give it one more try.
This time we managed to find the right street and as we were going along
saw a fairly large pharmacy on the right side of the road but I was in the left
lane. I just stopped traffic until
someone let me over even though people were blowing horns like crazy. The pharmacy did not have the medicine but
there was also a large pharmacy directly across the street. I told Charlotte I would run over and asked
but she did not want me to because there was no light and the street was so
busy. I went anyway. They had exactly what we had been looking for
so I got all three boxes they had (a three month supply at least) and we went
on to Freund. Again I missed it and had
to turn around but it was worth it. The
place was pretty amazing and we found everything we had on our lists and a few
neat items for the house. It had been a
somewhat adventurous and wandering around trip but a very successful one. We got home about 4 and Cesar came by a few
minutes at 5. He was supposed to go with
us on Friday to the preacher’s meeting but said he had to take Lucky to the
last dentist visit instead. Charlotte
said she thought she could find the way and after this day I hope she is right
because I sure don’t know where it is.
