Hot shower
anyone? Saturday morning our landlord
came by about 8. Fortunately we had
gotten up before 6. Charlotte always
gets up early and I have had to get up to keep the warm water going by
resetting the breaker when it flips off.
I told him I had a man coming to do the electrical work for us to have
hot water in the shower. He said he knew
someone he would prefer to do the job and he would also have a light installed
outside our front door since there wasn’t one.
I felt a little bad about the other fellow but since the house belongs
to this man I felt I certainly should follow his decision. I did find the other man later in the day and
give him some for coming by and giving the estimate. He was very nice about it. The young man who came was also very
nice. He made out a list of the things
he needed and went with me to the hardware store to make sure we got the right
things. The landlord was there and they
discussed everything and found all that we needed. Just before we left another young man arrived
who was to put the doors on our sink that was being installed as a place to
wash dishes. I told him he could ride
back in the car with us and he put the doors and all his tools in the
trunk. It sure would have been hard for
him to carry all that. The electrician
said he would go by his house for his tools and come back over soon. The carpenter looked quite young but did a
good job. He said he had handmade the
doors for the cabinet as well as all of the rest of the doors in this house so
he made these to match. He said was a
believer also and attended a church called Zion. He said he was glad we were here and hoped we
might visit his congregation someday.
The electrician returned about 10 and worked until about 1. He was here during our lunch but said his
family was expecting him for lunch. At
12:30 I ran over to Regina’s to have a study with Nelson. He arrived soon after I did and we had a good
study and he seemed to understand and agree with everything we studied. Even though he speaks fairly good English we
studied in Spanish because it was easier and more certain he would
understand. At 1:20 he and I headed back
over to the house for him to get to see it and for Charlotte and Arnoldo to
come back with Nelson for English class.
Arnoldo had walked over late in the morning for a visit and Charlotte
had put him to work helping her get ready for the teacher’s seminar. While Charlotte was teaching (she said all
our students came and it went well) I washed the dishes and watched the
downpour of rain that started about 2.
About 3:00 the electrician finally returned. We got into a discussion about
Christianity. He said he had been a
Seventh Day Adventist but was not going any more. I discussed that with him and explained how
we were trying to just be Christians according to the Bible. I even read some passages to him while he
worked. When Charlotte got back she and
Arnoldo stayed in the house with the worker while Cesar and I went across the
street and had a study with Jose. Kelly
was not home because she and the kids had gone to San Salvador to see her
father who was in the hospital with pancreatitis. We studied about repentance and what it
meant. We had a good study but when we
asked him about coming Sunday he said he was going to join the rest of the
family in San Salvador. The electrician
was still working so I went back and stayed at the house while Charlotte went
to the 5:00 study at Regina’s house.
Osvaldo was still teaching a series on World Religions, and he was on
part two. There were visitors and
interesting discussion for the lesson.
The worker stayed until 6, but when he finished we had a hot shower that
worked great and an outside light. He
had worked about 6 hrs. and only charged $25.00. We had invited Osvaldo and his family for
dinner since he was teaching at the 5:00 service. They followed Charlotte back over to our
house about 7 and we had a great visit and dinner. Luzelena said it was the best food she had
ever eaten. Charlotte told her she would
pay her later. It had been an
interesting day but lots was accomplished and we got to end it with a visit of
a dear brother and sister and their two sweet sons.
Dinner with Osvaldo, Luzelena, David and Eduardo
Luzelena took this one.
