Preacher’s
meeting. We did not have to leave for
the preacher’s meeting until about 8:15 so we got some more unpacking done
before we left. We have discovered that
with the shower head set on low we can get about 2 minutes of fairly warm water
before it trips the breaker. So
yesterday morning and today I stood by the breaker while Charlotte took her
shower and turned it back on each time it tripped. When I took my turn I discovered that if I
only turned the water on for a minute and then back off it would not trip the
breaker so I made it through pretty good.
We headed out to Ahuachapan for the meeting at the San Rafael
congregation. We turned on the street
Charlotte said to and in a moment saw some brothers walking up the road toward
us so we had no problems after speaking to them. This is the largest congregation in this area
with over 200 members and a large auditorium.
There was a good turnout. The
first person to speak was Brother Carlos.
The first Wednesday night after we got back he and Bro. Ricardo and Joli
had come over to our house in Ataco to tell us they were going to start a new
work in Salcoatitan (which is about 5 minutes up the road from Juayua) and
wanted us to know since it was near to us and to talk about working together as
much as possible. We were very excited
about the news and the prospect of having another church so nearby and
especially with families we were already so close to. Carlos announced the new work to the meeting
and spoke of our working together and asked for prayers. Most of the meeting was about getting ready
for the Family Seminar on Nov. 7 and a very large area wide Sunday service Nov.
8. We finished about 12:30 which was
better than most times the last few months.
Lunch was served but not much was on our diets we have begun since
getting back here so we did not eat a lot.
Next went to Claro and had mixed news.
We were told our phones were actually paid until Dec. 1st and
he took all the info to put the phones in our names at that time because he
said if we changed them now we would lose that credit. The bad news was that he said we were living
in a fairly new part of Juayua and that it would be about 8 days before we
could get internet service to our new house.
Next we ran by Dollar City and Selectos and got a few items that
Charlotte was looking for. During the
preacher’s meeting Lucky had called and said she wanted to come over this
afternoon to see our new house since she was returning to the States
tomorrow. As we headed up the hill away
from Ahuachapan she called and said they were about 10 minutes from
Juayua. Charlotte said that would work out
good and we would get there about the same time. After she hung up I said there is no way we
can get to Juayua in 10 minutes and she laughed and said she was thinking we
were going to Ataco so she called Lucky back and said we would be home in about
30 minutes. When we got into town, I
dropped Dwaine off at the house and drove to Cesar’s to pick Lucky up. We visited awhile and then planned to cook
dinner. I was going to try a simple
version of Shepard’s Pie. When it was
about done, Ricardo called and was nearby and was ready to pick Lucky up. They wanted to take Lucky out for her last
night here with Carlos and Linda. Lucky
did tell us an interesting story. She
said that she went to San Salvador this past Wednesday with Gladys and Nester
and Carlos in Ricardo’s small van. Nester
has been having a series of surgeries for some health issues, so he needed a
checkup. On the way home, the van had a
broken belt. So, they called Ricardo to
come. As people passed by, they said
they can’t be there when it gets dark for it is very dangerous. Carlos walked to a nearby store to get food
and the owner said they must not be there at night for it is very
dangerous. So, they walked to the store
to wait. The people said it was a bus
stop. One side of the road was controlled by one gang. The other side was controlled by another
gang. When people got off the bus on one
side, they could not even pass to the other side. The gang members would rob people that got
off the bus and the store owner could only watch and see it happen. He asked if
they were just out of gas for he had gas he could give them. They said they just had to wait for Ricardo
and the owner just said, “Good luck.”
Ricardo made it and they loaded into his bigger vehicle. As they were arriving to Juayua about 8 at
night, the main road was blocked for there had been a murder on a bus. A robber had entered a bus and someone on the
bus had a gun and killed him. They decided
to drive back to Sonsonate about 30 minutes away for dinner. When they returned about 11 p.m., the road was
still blocked. The group had to sleep in their car until the road opened at
about 1 a.m. The only other entrance to
Juayua is in route to Santa Ana and that would mean a very long detour of many
hours if they had tried to come from that direction. We were thankful to hear that they all made
it safely home. If we were still living
in Ataco, we would not have been able to exit the city just as they could not
enter to go home after evening service.
It was good to live in Juayua.
Cow's in the road.....if this were Monday, we could
say, this is a moooooing day instead of a moving day.
