Actual day off!!! We had no major plans for today. We had designated it as a day off because
Cesar was going to San Salvador for the day.
He does a radio program once a month and since he was going and Eliza is
from there, they also had an appointment with a Dr. for Abby because she has
had a persistent cough. We still got up
pretty early because without internet we have been getting to bed pretty
early. We went for our morning walk
about 8 and parked in the same spot but walked down to the other end of town
and went by Sara’s to see if Mario could see the kids on Saturday morning. She said she had talked with her mother and
they had decided against it. We were
very sad for their situation but had talked with her a long time on Tuesday and
felt trying to change her mind would do no good at this point so we just said
maybe it could work out some other time.
We had told the worker we would be home most of the day Friday so that
he could put back up the bathroom tiles that had to be removed in the hot water
head installation. Last time he did not
come until I went to ask him to but he came by after lunch and put them
in. He told me that because they had to
be removed for us that we would have to pay for their reinstallation. They looked good when he was done and he said
that would be $3 for 1 ½ hrs. work. I
gave him 5 and said thanks. We were
going to Valentina’s 4th. Birthday party at 6 so we went out for a
while about 4 to get some groceries for our big Sunday lunch with Nelson’s
family and to get a present for Valentina.
About 5:40 we headed out for Shucutitan.
When we turned down the road to the house of Bessie’s mom we saw Edgardo
and family walking toward us. They are
the ones we had decided to help some each month from the extra that had been
given for Regina since he had given up his position with the church and gone
back to the coffee fields. We had given
the first time just last Sunday at the morning service. He told us how much they appreciated the help
and that the money had enabled them to get an eye exam for their son Javier and
to get glasses on an instalment plan. We
had explained to them the situation when we gave the money and they said then
and again tonight how deeply they appreciated the love and generosity of the
people of Central and how much it meant to them. When we got to Bessie’s mom’s there were
Osvaldo and family since Luz Elena and Bessie’s husband are first cousins
(their mothers were sisters, though Luz Elena’s mother died in a mud slide in
’92. We went to the larger house up the
road that also belongs to Bessie’s family.
There was a good crowd and we were fed a meal and ice cream cake. We sat across from Osvaldo and Luz Elena and
had a good visit. He told us about the
work in Los Platanares and said they wanted to come and spend a day with us on
our day off soon so that Charlotte could teach Luz Elena some recipes. We had a great time and still got home about
8. At least more rested than usual at
least.
