First walk and our new home. We had wanted to start walking in the
mornings. We used to do this in
Huntsville and really enjoyed it. We
live at the end of the main street but a ways from downtown and it would be a
steep downhill and uphill going and the same returning so we decided we would
drive to the level area near the heart of town and then walk around that area
which should be very safe also. We had
talked about doing it for a few days but this morning decided to go. It was also Wicket’s first time on a
leash. Fortunately the leash is a
harness and not a collar so it is not very uncomfortable when she resists. She does great riding the car-stays in the
floorboard at Charlotte’s feet. When we
first started the walk she was very anxious and nervous when cars passed but by
the time we got to the half way point she was heeling almost perfectly and did
not seem anxious at all for the rest of the walk. As we passed the central park we ran into our
landlord. I had mentioned to him on
Monday that we would like to go over some ideas we had about the house we are
to move into when it is finished. He
said he had time this morning so we said we would run home and leave the dog
and meet him at the house. It is just
around the corner so we put Wicket in and headed out on foot. As we rounded the corner he caught up with us
on his bike. As we walked through the
house we discovered that it was not really all that large but we thought it
would be ok. We asked him to remove a
wall separating two small bedrooms that opened off the living room. This will allow us to have a large living
room that has a good size opening to a large long room that will be kitchen on
one end and dining on the other with possibly our counter table in between as a
type of bar. Behind the kitchen-dining
will be a door to our quite large (at least for here) bedroom. The bathroom will be through a door
immediately beside our bedroom and it will be a large bathroom for here. At one end of the bathroom but through a door
will be the laundry room with washer and drier hookups. Zulima said almost no one in Juayua has a
clothes drier. He will have to vent the
dryer out the ceiling since the property on the other side of the back wall
does not belong to him but he said that would be no problem. That only left one rather long and fairly
narrow room to be a second bedroom. We
will probably put a half bath at the end of this room so that guests and
visitors will not have to use our bathroom but guests will have a pass through
the laundry room to our bathroom for the only shower. Outside there will be a pretty good sized
yard for here with a gate for car entrance and a cover at the front end. There will be a tall stone and iron wall
around the yard on one side and the house on the other. The house will be very accommodating for us
and for dinner guests and even Bible study groups but not much room for
overnight guests but we don’t expect to have a lot of those at one time so
hopefully it will be ok. Cesar and
Arnoldo came to our house at 10 and we had good studies with Delme and with
Julia in the morning. After lunch we
visited with Sister Ana and Charlotte and I had a good study with Omar, Emily
and Gizela. At the 5 pm service we had a
good number of folks with all our regulars.
After service we went by Selectos and ran into our landlord again. He said any other ideas we had about the
house he would be glad to do them. We
invited him and his family for dinner Tuesday night. One funny note, we had invited Jose and Kelly
and kids for dinner on Thursday night when we thought Thursday would be our day
off. Then we found out that Cesar had to
go to San Salvador on Friday and it would be better if we were off then and
worked Thursday. So we asked if Jose and
Kelly could change to Friday night and they said fine. Later in the day we remembered that we had
promised Bessie we would come to the 4th. Birthday party of her
little girl Balentina on Friday night at 6.
So I went back over and asked if Jose and Kelly could change back to
Thursday. They laughed but said that was
fine. We were supposed to visit the
schools here in Juayua with Carlos and Cesar in the morning to ask them about a
class in English and one in Morals as a way to get into contact with some of
the families here and in Salcoatitan.
About 8:45 Cesar called and said that had to be postponed until next
week so we will just do some visiting in the morning and have the afternoon to
get ready for dinner so it all worked out anyway.
