Keep the
pace. Meeting day. Last week the weekly meeting between the
Juayua and Salcoatitan group was changed from Monday to Tuesday morning
primarily so that more ladies could attend. We had actually planned the first meeting in
Juayua, but we still did not have electricity.
So, we went to Salcoatitan instead.
Both Yoli and Linda came, so it was great to have some ladies
attending. Eliza was not feeling well,
so she did not come. Carlos and Linda’s
oldest girl of 4 years started school on Monday. The school was fairly close to the church, so
at one point Linda left the meeting to walk to meet her. We made a few decisions during the meeting,
first that when the group comes this summer from Huntsville we will have an end
of the week seminar/dinner to focus on the contacts that we have developed and
will make the week they are there. This
will be a joint effort between the two cities.
Next, we will have a teen event in February. At first, it was going to just be an event in
Salcoatitan, but we decided among the Juayua group we could try this here
too. Our first effort will try to be
some of the students in the school that were in our English and Morals classes
during the school summer break. It will
be a movie with a ‘lesson,’ snacks and a discussion/devo at the end. We live cattycorner to the school now, so the
Juayua group will meet in our home. We
are hopeful that this will open the door for some parents and students to visit
and form some relationships. We are also
planning a ladies’ class that will start early in February. We ended with some plans for a women’s
ministry Yoli had started and a few final thoughts on the campaign coming in
July. Now that school started back this week, we are excited to start some
fresh plans for the year. We finished up
at 12:30, so we headed home for lunch. I
had planned to start a new study with Sonja and Marina, Sister Ana’s daughters
with Seyli and Eliza. Seyli was in Santa
Ana and Eliza did not feel very well.
Thankfully, she was up to a short study, so we had each other’s company
to make this visit. It is not the safest
area of town, so Dwaine was glad I had some company. Marina was working, but Sonja was home. She was willing to study and her younger
daughter, Erica, of about 10 years also sat in the study. Of course Sister Ana also was there. Ana mostly read the verses for she had found
her glasses. Eliza brought her some
medicines they had gotten for her. After
taking meds for a little while, she is to start some physical therapy. She is hopeful that she might be able to walk
again. We studied for about an hour and
we left some Bibles for Sonja and Marina.
She said she didn’t want to read, but I could hear her reading along
with Ana. Afterwards, Eliza called to
check on Abi and Abi was crying a little.
I know leaving Abi for a little was hard, and I was very appreciative
that Eliza joined us. Next, I went by to
study with Socorro. She had her sling
off her arm and said she had gotten a good report from the doctor. She had visited Sonsonate last Friday for an x-ray. She did say she wouldn’t start therapy until
mid-February. We studied the validity
and authority of the word as we are about to enter a study on how to recognize
the New Testament church. She has a varied
background in several groups and hopefully this will help her know what the
Scripture says. We finished up with an
invite to come to lunch on Thursday.
When I got home, Dwaine said that he had tried to check on the progress
of turning on the electricity at the church building. We are facing another service on Wednesday in
the dark. Again, we should be able to
set up an extension cord with a couple of small lights with the neighbor. Apparently, the company contact is in
Sonsonate, so he had no luck talking with anyone. He did stop by the hardware to make sure the
landlord and his family was coming to the evening study. He was planning to come and he and his wife
and son arrived about 6:30. We had a
study on the history of the church and shared some red velvet cake. Dwaine had me take a picture of my ant-proof
apparatus for persevering the cake and we all got a laugh out of this. They did say now their older son who started
school in Santa Ana was coming home every weekend and they would be taking him
back each Sunday. So, they will not be
able to come to our service. We are
prayerful about a door opening for them in this area. We did invite them to dinner next week since
it had been a little while. We got into
a discussion about favorite foods and I said my favorite was pizza. So, they said the following week they would
bring some pizza by for dinner! That
sounds like fun. After they left, I
skyped with Leanna for about an hour. She
is taking an online physics class with ‘do at home labs.’ So, we conducted her lab at home and I got to
watchJ. I love physics!
