What a crazy
day!!!! It was our first trip to San
Salvador to start to work on our visas.
We met up with Cesar, a brother who lives in Santa Anna, who was going
with us to help us find our way around.
First, we had a miscommunication with him and went to the wrong service
station to meet up (imagine having problems communicating between English and
Spanish). So when we finally got
together we were about 30 minutes late.
I (Dwaine) had planned to let him drive but I was tense about being late
and I thought if he drove and it was not fast enough to suite me I would be tenser
so I drove. We arrived about 10 minutes
late at the office of the lawyer who was to translate all our documents. We were the only ones there- he was very nice
and he spoke English well since he had lived in the States and 5 other
countries. He seemed very knowledgeable
and said the papers should be ready by next week-wow. Then we went to immigration to get papers for
the church here to fill out. Then we
went to the police here and got our mug shots and finger prints- even though we
just got here we still have to have papers from them saying we are not
criminals here. They said everything
would be ready next week also. So as
soon as we can get the documentation from the Church here we can present
everything to immigration and see if it is all good. We are hoping to meet on Monday with the
church here that is supposed to help us with that and right now we are
scheduled to go back to San Salvador next Thursday and are hoping we can turn
everything in to immigration at that time.
Even if it is a few days after that it will still be great. The most amazing thing of the day was that I
drove in San Salvador in extremely crazy traffic and even more extremely tight
places and had no accidents. I told
Charlotte I was ready now. Going out of town we wanted to stop at Walmart for a
few items. We found the sign, but then
discovered that it had burned down. We
did not realize it from the front of the store, but leaving the parking lot, we
saw Walmart and Office Depot completely gutted.
After we dropped Cesar off back
at his house in Santa Anna we went to the Super Select in Ahuachapan and got a
few more groceries because we are having guests for dinner Friday night and
Saturday night. We arrived home about
7:30 in the evening- 12 and ½ hours after we left this morning. It was an incredibly exhausting day but so
much was accomplished and we had gone out on our own and all went so well. All praise to our Lord and Protector.
