One mouse down, and no telling how
many more to go! At one o'clock on Sunday morning, Dwaine got up and discovered that a mouse was on top of the bathroom
sink. He put both his hands out to stop
it and it went into the sink. We had a
glass nearby and he turned it over the mouse.
The sink has quite a curve and so he found a flexible book to slip under
it. Then, the discussion pursued. Does Dwaine kill it, or release it
outside. In the end Dwaine showed mercy
and took it outside. The garage door was
very loud and then he sort of tossed it away from the house. It went scurrying down the street. When Lucky got up she said she heard all the commotion
and wondered if we had a fight and one of us leftJ!
That was so funny! However, where
there is one, there is more. She
discovered another one when she got, so the war is on.
Our first service was Shucututian. We seemed to recognize more people and had a
few more conversations. While our
Spanish may be conversational, this week as things settle, we want to try to
commit to several hours of study each day.
Otherwise, our growth in that area will be slow. One aspect of this service that was
enjoyable, was the fact that Hector presented Lucky with a nice gift for her
year of service here. She is returning
to the States to greet her new grandson and will not return for a couple of
months. It was a nice sendoff. Another thing caught my attention too. Dwaine and I have been having some studies
with a couple of people who are not Christians.
A young lady, Bessi, from the congregation goes with us. Bessi’s mother is having gallbladder surgery
on Monday. Also, Hector’s children have
had an ongoing cough for some time and have not been able to come to
service. One of the leaders of the
church came around after church and asked people to sign up for a time to pray
for these individuals for 30 minutes.
Dwaine and I signed up for the 6:00 and the 6:30 a.m. slot. The goal was to have a full day of prayer by
the saints. What a blessing to
participate in this. We pray God will
answer the prayers. Dwaine and I are
hoping to study with Bessi’s mom some time, so we pray this will be an
encouragement.
We decided to walk around Ataco for a few minutes before
the Ataco service and then walk to the service.
It didn’t take too much time to take in all the sites of Ataco. While it is very picturesque, it is also very
small. We walked home quickly afterwards
and left for the service in Juayua within about 30 minutes. Osvaldo preached about Stephen’s faith in
Acts. It was a great sermon. One amazing thing happened at Juayua. Osvaldo’s parents were visiting. I had met them previously and Dwaine got to
meet them. Mr. Azucena is helping us
with church sponsorship to get our visas.
He has long been a founding church member throughout El Salvador and
their children are extremely active as preachers, youth ministers and wives of
preachers. There was a man at the church
at Juayua who became a Christian 50 years ago because of the message of the
gospel that he heard on the radio. Mr.
Azucena was the man who gave the radio message!
Last night was the first time that they had the opportunity to meet! God works in amazing ways!
Afterwards, Hector asked if Dwaine and I would like to go get a
bite to eat with Carlos and Osvaldo.
Carlos said he could go, so we ended up going with Osvaldo, Osvaldo’s family
and parents and Isabel from Shucututian. We found a little Pupuseria and it was great,
but left us getting home late. We were
greeted by Lucky, saying she was so worried about us. She did not have minutes on her phone, so we
could not contact each other. We hated
to give her such a fright, but it was good to have the fellowship.
Dwaine caught a mouse!
Anyone care for a drink from this glass?
Lucky was honored for her work here.
Lucky has been serving the church for a year here.
We passed a band playing the park in Ataco
Sweet reunion!
The man on the left was converted through a radio message by
Mr. Azucena 50 years ago!
This was their first meeting.
Love to read of your activities. Blessings and love to you. Carol Kuhn
