February 7, 2015

Today was a little bit of a day for ‘catch up.’  We didn't plan any long excursions today, but still managed to stay busy.  First, we went to the doctor to get our immigration paper signed.  It was to certify that we were healthy.  The joke here, is that he did not do any kind of exam, he only signed his name.  When we asked if he needed to do an exam, he looked puzzled, like, why would I do that?  He said we looked healthy to him.  Dwaine said that was the quickest $50 that he had made lately.
We had both expected and unexpected guests today.  First Maritza, from church, stopped by with her little girl to visit.  Later in the day, Carlos, Linda and their two girls came by for a visit.  Then we had invited Caesar and Eliza and their daughter to come over for dinner.  While they were here, Bryan, a friend of Caleb and Della’s came by.  Caleb had studied with Bryan several times, but he had not committed his life to the Lord yet.  We encouraged him to come again and he said that he would.  He asked if Dwaine was as good at orgami and computers as CalebJ.  Caleb and Della were friends with Caesar and Eliza, so we Skyped with them to get to talk.  Then, as soon as we finished, Bryan came, so we Skyped again.  It is amazing that you can talk face to face so easily.
Between the visits, I sewed a baby blanket for Caesar and Eliza’s little girl.  It is the first time that I have sewed in years.  When they came to dinner, it was nice to be able to give something that I had made.
I did have one interesting bit of information.  Lucky went out to have her hair dyed, washed and straightened.  She did take her own box of dye.  She said that the whole process cost about $8 and that included the tip. That is one-tenth, the amount that would be in the States.  That was amazing.
That was Charlotte’s day, though I was here for most of it.  I did not want to stay home all day so I went out to see the town.  There are lots more people in town on Saturdays.  I also made several trips to stores.  One to the hardware to buy termite treatment for the furniture.  One to buy wrapping paper for the gift Charlotte made.  Another to buy a tool to fix the commode.  Another to buy a needle for Charlotte and before dinner I went and got tortillas. I have gotten pretty familiar with every part of town but that is not saying much.  Ataco is pretty small and all the streets are straight and either parallel or perpendicular to each other.  Well, it is not late but we are tired from lots of activity and tomorrow we will go to church meetings in Shucututian, Ataco and Juayua.
By the way, we are still working on the mice.  They are so noisy at night chewing things that I woke up once to see it scurry across the bedroom floor.  We discovered, it had been in the silverware drawer and the cabinets.  To note, it appreciated the tasty snack Dwaine left on the rat trap, for somehow the cheese was gone, but the trap did not snare the invader.  Maybe we will have better success tonight.
