Day of the
Children! Here it is….a combined Ladies’
and Children’s event. While we had done
some door knocking, we were very uncertain on the outcome of our efforts. Therefore, it was extremely difficult on how
many to prepare for. I made about 75
cookies and chip and dip and I had two crafts ready. Dwaine stuffed two piñatas, one for the
children and one for the ladies. I
couldn’t wait to get my first swing.
Dwaine did some cleaning at the building as it is our month to
clean. Dwaine always takes that task on
graciously for me. He also went at 1 to
set up canopies and I arrived at 2. The
plan was to practice two skits that we were going to do. But, it was a challenge to get everyone
together at the right time. It looks
like this would be skits on the fly. The
moment arrived and people came and kept coming.
We were so excited! In the end,
we had 80+. Wow! While there were some challenges on food,
chairs, etc., there was one particular challenge that we hope to resolve. This challenge was that we had several new
visitors. I usually have time to go
around and talk to visitors and ask about studies, but this was more
difficult. The number was greater and I
did not have as much freedom to move about.
When we first started events, Suleyma went around and asked for
directions and desires. After that the
number of new visitors was typically only three or four and I could meet each of
them. So, we are going to have to
restart this process and get to talk to all the visitors. This event did have one thing different that
was fun for me. I got to add in some
object lessons using some science demos.
That was great for me, but it is a challenge to find materials
here. It seemed to be well received and
I was blessed to use this fun way of teaching.
The piñatas were done inside the building and we had a crowd. The kids were certainly more adept at getting
the piñata open. It sure was a scramble
to get all the candy! I am amazed no one
is injured. The ladies were a little
more subdued, but eventually got the candy with a little help form Dwaine. We sure were exhausted at the end of the day,
but very thankful for such a good turnout.
