October 19, 2016

Party crashers. We are excited to start a new study with Rut.  She has visited two ladies’ events and last time she said we could drop by.  We arrived at 9 and she was ready.  However, she did explain that she worked every day and had only taken the day off to help her daughter of 9 years study for her exams in the afternoon.  So, we did start the study and then planned to continue in the month of December when school vacations happen.  Their summer vacations are late Nov, Dec, and part of January, so they are opposite of what happen in the States.  Hopefully, we can continue and at least lay a foundation when school is out.  Rut is a teacher and must conform to the school schedule. Next, we went on to Briseida’s.  That was a funny, funny visit.    Briseida or Antonio were not home, but Briseida’s sister-in-law, Carolina were there with several children and ladies.  They invited us to walk around to the back of the house and we were told they would return soon for it was Genesis’ birthday.  I did note it was especially clean and there was a piñata hanging.  So, we decided that we were crashing a party and needed to slip out.  When we got to the end of the cemetery, we met first Briseida and then Antonio arriving.  Well, I had taken some baby clothes that we had brought from the States, so I handed those along.  It was a funny morning.  We told them we would visit next week.  With a little time, we walked by Magnolia’s but she was not home.  Then, we walked by Claudia’s, the young one, and asked if she wanted to study Thursday morning.  She said yes.  So, we planned for 10.  When we arrived home, Ulma and her son Juan Miguel came by to pick up Sunday school material and I said it was at the building.  We are alternating the classes and she was not there on Sunday.  We decided in the end that we would just swap and I would teach this Sunday and she would do the last one since October has 5 Sundays.  She did want to join me on a day to go out for studies.  I think we have settled on Monday afternoons.  She has to take the bus to come from Apaneca, so I hope when she comes everyone is available to study.  It did give us a chance to visit some and I drove her back to the bus stop as we were expecting Douglas any moment.  However, he never showed.  Arnoldo arrived and said he has talked to Carolina and she could not come.  We had lunch and Dwaine was going to leave early to clean the building before his afternoon study with Michael, Melvin and Mr. Rivas.  Eber is harder to catch because he is working now.  Arnold walked over to Cesar and planned to walk to the building for the study.  Carolina did show up after a few minutes and was just running late due to some commitments.  She ate some lunch and we started a study which lasted for about an hour.  At the end I passed along a few clothes Leanna and Christina has sent for her and one outfit for Ingrid.  I also passed along a necklace from Leanna and a bracelet from Minnie Teague.  She was so overwhelmed, she started crying.  It was so very little, yet so appreciated.  We have appreciated everyone’s generosity, but it is always hard to grasp the difficulties of life for some.  Thankfully, Carolina knows she is much loved.  We had scheduled to go out and look at kittens at 4, so Socorro knew I was not coming for one Wednesday.  We picked up Gisela, Xiomara and her sister to drive back to a little questionable area.  We were told it would be safe because it was just on the outskirts of a little bit of a dangerous area.  It went smooth as far as safety, but the lady was sleeping and no one could get her to wake up.  Gisela walked down to her aunts and she came to see if she could get her going.  But, alas, no kitten today.  When we got home, we started on pick up rounds and then we had our service.  For the children’s class, Arnoldo did most of the teaching and he did a great job.  We are making a shift to try to get more available teachers.  On our way home, we got a call from Carlos saying that he wanted to use our pila for a baptism.  He has four young men from Bica, a preaching school in Guatemala.  They had studied with a boy, Kevin, of 11 years and he wanted to be baptized.  His brother, Douglas, had been baptized some time back, so it was a blessing to see the family growing.  It was definitely a full day.
