Hit the floor
running. Ladies’ events are demanding
for everyone and there were a lot of last minute details to finish. After staying up to 2:30 Friday, I got up at
5:30 to work on cooking. I had cooked 50
flower cookies on Friday since our theme was Flowers for Me and I still needed to frost them. I had experimented with making colored
sugars. It is always amazing what you
can make when items are available. I had
never thought of making my own sugars. Then we still had on the agenda cheese
dip and flower open chicken salad sandwiches.
Those would come together at lunchtime.
We still had coffee and bread planned for the morning. I was concerned about how long it might take. We arrived at the church building about 8:40
and very soon, a man arrived who was selling furniture. It is not uncommon to see a walking
salesperson with a kitchen stand or a plastic cabinet for sale. However, within about 10 minutes, 11 men
arrived with their furniture items. They
were out for the day, traveling from San Salvador to sell the furniture items. Along with them some children also arrived to
get some coffee and bread for their families.
By 9, we were empty. We did have
a few regular ladies to come as well. We
were later told that the workers from San Salvador probably had not had
anything to eat before leaving out to get all the furniture, so it was a great
morning to serve. When we got home,
Dwaine helped put the sandwiches together and we got to the building about
1:30. Linda did a fantastic job
decorating and people starting arriving about 3. In the end, we had about 16 or 17 ladies and
about 8 children. The men volunteered to
keep the children and they watched a film.
The ladies had an introduction game and lots of eats. I did a power point lesson on Lydia and
Linda did an amazing job on making
flowers. We had cut lots of paper
flowers and everyone had a blast. In the
end we did a drawing for a bouquet of flowers that all the ladies made. It was a nice afternoon and there was still
more to come. Afterwards, Dwaine and I
went by to take Socorro out for pupusas for dinner. There is a restaurant across from her hostel,
so we could see if she had any customers to arrive during dinner. Two American who were staying at her place
also arrived for dinner and Dwaine visited with them for several minutes. They were from Texas and Louisiana. Afterwards, Dwaine stayed up reading, but I
went to bed about 8:30. I needed that!
