Back to School.
Dwaine and I had visited with Iris, Arnoldo’s English teacher, last
week. We had wanted to sit through one
class so that when we start volunteeringin the school we will have an idea what she is
covering. It was an experience. First, there are 50 students in the small
classroom. Wow. She was covering simple present tense,
followed by a complement. She used
pronouns for verb agreement. She went
through several examples where students went to the board to write the
answers. The format of the class was
fine, but with so many students, she was only able to cover about 12 sentences
in the 1 hour 35 minute class. After the
class, Iris came over and looked at the English material that we had. We decided that we would work on possessive
pronouns and likes and dislikes. We will
teach vocabulary for Iris. She will come
over for an hour after class. We are
hoping to open the door for ‘the younger generation.’ We are planning a movie, Facing the Giants,
for the 13th in Salcoatitan and on the 20th for
Juayua. Iris said she would ask the
director if we could offer tickets to her students. The event will be in our home, so it won’t be at the school. But we still wanted his
permission. We had done the summer
English course in the school, so we have worked with the director
previously. She left about 1 and we ate
lunch and rested a few minutes. Dwaine
left to pick Regina up at 3:30 to take her to the doctor in Apaneca. For me, Eliza came over to work on Sunday school
curriculum. She stayed until about 6:30
and Dwaine did not get home from taking Regina to the doctor until 7. With that, we ate a late dinner and then
worked on lessons for a bit and skyped.
