Marathon meeting. We decided
last week we would meet an hour earlier this week so we would have plenty of
time to work out all the details in preparation for our group visiting from Central
this July. The meeting was in Juayua
this week so we took our large coffee pot and filled it full. Charlotte also made squash muffins and pound
cake. We got there a little early to get
everything set up and at 8 I called Cesar to let him know we would not be
picking him up. He still said he thought
we were meeting at 9 as usual and after everyone else arrived I had to call him
again at 8:30 to say we were waiting for him.
We finally got going about 8:40.
We went through every day the group would be here working out all the
schedule and logistics of what would happen each day. We are going to rent a full size bus since we
are expecting a large group this year.
Most of the group will stay here in Juayua and we will have two days of
door knocking, afternoon ladies and children’s events and evening preaching in
Juayua and then two days in Salcoatitan.
Saturday we will be having an event capped off by a lunch for our visitors
in Salcoatitan and then have a similar event in Juayua capped off by a dinner. We are meeting this Saturday night at our
house for pupusas and to discuss the topics for each event. Our hope is to be well prepared to have
everything well detailed and to be able to share those details with those who
will be coming when we are there for our visit in March. We were able to finish the meeting by noon.
From Charlotte, during our meeting time, we still had the opportunity to reach
out to several people. I forgot to take
milk and sugar for the coffee, so I walked across the street to the little
store to pick some up. I realized that I
knew the lady behind me. It was
Celia. We had been dropping by for a
study and she always has an open door. However, she didn’t make it to the ladies’
event. She said that she had been really
sick and still sounded bad. We had gone
some Monday’s, but were unable to go yesterday because we went to the
school. She settled on Thursday
morning. Then, she walked by the church
and also spoke to Dwaine. Before everyone
arrived, I also got to speak to a young girl, Tatiana, who lives next to the
church. Her grandmother and she had
visited the ladies’ event. We had given
out prayer request cards and she said she had not turned her in, but she
would. Her mother lives in the states,
and she hopes to visit her in the fall. Then, right at the end of the meeting
just before our final prayer, Wendy and Sandra arrived. They were on the way to the hospital so that
Wendy could deliver her baby. She was
due Feb. 3rd, and the doctor scheduled her to come today if she had
not delivered earlier. Sandra is her
mother-in-law. Carlos said that he was
going to Ahuachapan in about an hour and they could ride with him, but they
wanted to ride the bus. We did settle
that Dwaine and I could pick her up after her delivery. We gathered around and prayed. I got her number to call Wednesday
morning. We wrapped up and then were
loading some items. Several ladies were visiting
while Evelia was ‘tortiando’ (making tortillas). I went down to visit for a few minutes and
Evelia said she couldn’t come to the ladies’ event because she prepares tamales
on Saturday. Maria, one neighbor had come
and another lady, I also had previously meet was also there. It was good to have a few minutes to
talk. After lunch, Seyli and I went to
visit with Sister Ana. I had planned two
studies, one devotional for Ana, if her daughters are not there and the other a
study for her daughters. Her daughters
were out, so I started the study with Ana.
It was not long though before Gloria arrived. She sat in on the remainder of the study. Afterwards, I took Seyli home and joined
Dwaine to go by Mario and Sara’s for a study on marriage. From Dwaine, Sara was not home even though it
was her day off. Mario said that her
mother had suddenly become very sick this morning and that Sara had gone with
her to the Dr. in Juayua. We did visit
with him for a while but we just talked and did not get into a study. He shared a lot about all their difficulties
and we exhorted him to start making steps toward the Lord by making serious
efforts to start attending services and to start setting an example for Sara by
the way he was living his life. After we
left Mario's we went by to visit with Regina to ask if Elizabeth or Kenia might
be able to help during the preacher's meeting on Friday which we are co-hosting
in Salcoatitan. Elizabeth said she
could. We had a rather sad meeting
because Danielito was quite sick and so was Suleyma. She said they were hoping to take him to the
Dr. on Wednesday morning. After we got
home we cleaned a little and got ready for Don Santos, Sonja and Jimmy to
arrive for their weekly study. They
brought pupusas, we had thought we were going out for pupusas after the
study. We really needed to eat them
while they were hot so we just mostly had a visit and talked some about the
study we had last week when they attended the Wednesday night study at the
building. We have been studying with
them quite a while now and they have started coming at least to the Wednesday
night services so that is good. It has
been really cold here the last little while.
People say the cold usually ends in January. Now, don’t laugh, but it is low 50’s and
probably about 45 wind chill because the winds are up to about 16 mph. Just remember, we don’t have indoor heat like
the States, so it is hard to escape to a warmer solace. We will be wishing for that cold weather when
it is in the 90’s soon and no AC. At any
rate, Don Santos said it was a 30 year low on the temperatures!
