Day of Sleep Over.
The sleep over for the teen girls begins at four, so we spent the day
cooking and cleaning. Dwaine helped so
much getting everything ready. This
would not have been possible without his help.
We set out two long tables in the garage that is alongside our eating
room. It works great for an extra room
when the car is outside. One small table
was set up for craft materials and we made all the beds and checked there were
enough blankets and pillows. Arrival
time is 4 and at this point we are uncertain on numbers. Dwaine drove over to Katherine’s in the
afternoon to tell her that Rachel could pick her up, but it looked like she
would have to babysit her brother for the night. Both her parents work. We finished up most everything by early
afternoon, so I sleep for about an hour.
Right at 4, a group arrived.
Quickly afterwards, Bessy and her mother-in-law, Isabella arrived. Bessy
also had her young daughter Valentina with her. Isabella planned to only come
for a few minutes, but she decided to stay.
I cannot begin to say how thankful I was that she stayed. She helped me so much all night long. After that Rachel and a few more
arrived. She had her daughter, Brisa and
her niece, Heidi. I think in the end we
had about 15 total. One of the girls had
just been baptized today! Everyone was
terrific. We ate all night. Dinner was fried chicken and French fries. Dwaine headed out to spend the night at Hector’s
after dinner. There was a torrential
downpour and he said it rained so hard that people were pulling off the
road. Even though we had a big dinner,
it wasn’t long and we ate homemade pizza, of which Isabella cooked. Then we had chips and dip and finally
breakfast with pancakes. In between we
had lots of cookies. Wow, so much
eating! Rachel and I both did
devotionals at different times during the night. There were games and I had prepared about 6 or
7 different crafts with our ‘friendship’ theme.
I think everyone stayed busy all night. We skyped Caleb and baby
Charlotte early and then Clifton got to talk to all the girls too about 10:30. About 4 a.m. people started settling down and
going to bed. I finally dozed in a chair
by the front door from 5 to 5:30.
Isabella had to leave at 6 to go cook bread to sell and I started on
breakfast. Dwaine and Hector arrived
about 7:30 or 8 because it was becoming difficult to travel. Each town has parades and festivities all day
due to Good Friday, so they blocked roads.
Everyone headed out about 8:30.
The greatest compliment, was their final question, “Can we do this
again?” What a blessing.
Early arrivals went to work preparing a welcome for others.
