Another one gone. We had
another full day of English classes. We
only have two left after today. Today
was seasons, weather, days of the week, months, and telling time. Charlotte always has games that also teach
English to keep the kids interested.
Today she had a set of small cards with weather words on some and
pictures on others. First the students matched
the words to the pictures with all the cards turned up and then they turned
them over and mixed them up and tried to do the memory game where you take
turns turning two over to see if they match and removing them if they do. She also had several other games, her endless
creativity never ceases to amaze me.
Between classes we brought Cesar and Arnoldo home with us for lunch
since Arnoldo is helping with the English classes and always has lunch with us
on class days and Eliza is out of town so we invited Cesar also. We told them they were our boys in El
Salvador. This morning before we headed
out we went by the Mayor's office to see if we could reserve the community
center downtown for our breakfast for ladies on the 21st. He said a group was planning to start setting
up in there for the rest of December and until January 16th. To have
arts and crafts displays and sales.
There is a really big celebration here that runs from Christmas through
the middle of January. Because the house
we are moving to is right in town we were told that one street would be blocked
off for the festivities but our new landlords promised the street the garage
opens on is not used for the festivities and that we would be able to get in
and out with our car. Hope so. Anyway, we thought we were not going to be
able to get the downtown community center, there are two others he said we
could use but they are much further away from the area where we held the first
event and we wanted to invite the ladies from this area first to continue our contacts
and relationships we have already begun.
He said he would call and see if the other group could wait to start
setting up in the afternoon of the 21st. When we went back by to check just before
lunch he said we were all set and could use the place until noon. We worked on getting the invitations ready
during lunch and we will be able to get them printed Saturday morning and start
getting them out first of next week. After the English class here in Juayua a
man who is a caretaker in the school went with us to look at a recreation area
that he also takes care of that he said we could use for free for youth events
anytime we wanted to. They had rigged a
barrel between two trees to be a mechanical bull. Never seen anything like that. They also had an eating area and a long trail
for hiking that went back into the mountains.
It was fairly nice but because it is in the woods the bugs are
rampant. When we dropped Arnoldo off we
picked up Zuleyma and gave her a ride back home. She said she was still waiting to hear back
about the house that is in this area that might be for rent but hoped to know
something soon. It is a good location
but we have not seen the inside and do not know how much they want for the
rent. Still, we can hope until we know
differently. We sure are going to need
more room soon so keep this in your prayers for us.
