Long distance for preacher's meeting. Today, the monthly preacher's meeting was in
Santa Tecla, which is just outside San Salvador. They are not really in our area but both Hector
and especially Ricardo and Joli have been working with them for quite a while
now. This is the congregation that
Charlotte spoke at when she went with Ricardo and Joli and they had the flat
from the gangs on the way home. It was
good because Charlotte got to reconnect with some of the ladies she had met
that day. We had to leave out about 7 am
and pick up Cesar. We were supposed to meet
Ricardo at the gas station in Salcoatitan at 7:30 to follow him since neither
we nor Cesar knew how to get there. We
arrive at the station about 7:20 and when he did not show up by 7:30 we called
and he had forgotten to wait for us. Fortunately he was able to wait for us
beside the road as we entered Sonsonate so we followed him the rest of the
way. The facility was nice but was open
at one end which was nice today because the wind was blowing and it was
sunny. They had just built new bathrooms
and they were the nicest ones I have seen at any church here so far. There were only about half as many preachers
as usual because of the long distance to get there. When we finished at 12:15 lunch was
ready. We mostly talked about plans for
the next year and the purpose for the preacher's meeting. After lunch we took advantage of being in San
Salvador to go to immigration to change our house address again. We got the same lady as when we moved to
Juayua in September so we were joking about moving again so soon. After immigration we went by Wal Mart and
amazingly spent less than $20.00 because they did not have what we were looking
for and we did not need much else. We
did find a pharmacy that had Charlotte's synthroid and we got another 3 month
supply. After that we stopped by a mall
that had a branch of the DMV where we could renew the car registration since it
is done by birth month and Monday is Charlotte's birthday. However when
Charlotte handed they everything they said no taxes were due until next
year. So we celebrated by getting some
ice cream at the mall. It was the first
we have had since getting back in September and it sure was good. We also
stopped by the Bible Society bookstore to get some new children’s teaching
material that Eliza had recommended. We
found an inexpensive but nice looking copy of Dios Habla Hoy (God Speaks Today)
an easy reading modern language translation I had found on the net and really
liked. We also got a nice large print
Bible for Sister Ana because she said she could read but had trouble seeing the
words. She had not asked for one but we
have been really blessed lately and had a little chance to pass some on. The
traffic was really terrible all day and people seemed much more aggressive than
usual. I was in almost constant fear of
being ran over because people were almost constantly about to run over us. We had a good trip back but were really tired
when we got home. As we approached
Salcoatitan we saw Mr. Rivas walking beside the road and were able to stop and
give him a ride to his house which was really good because he said he would
come to services again tomorrow night and he and Cesar and Eliza are coming to
our house for dinner Sunday night. One
funny note, I noticed a nice looking Honda Accord that said for sale on the
back window and I mentioned to Cesar that it was 2 door. He said they call that anti suegra here (anti
mother-in-law) I thought that was pretty funny.
