June’s Ladies’
Event. For the morning, Dwaine went to
clean the building to get ready for the ladies’ event. I really thought we had picked a good menu,
ham and cheese sliders, cookies and chips.
I thought I could cook for the morning, rest and then be ready for the
event at 3. Well, it was a nice
thought. No rest and the usual scramble
to get out the door in time. It seemed
we had several people out among the sisters and I had had a hard time
contacting everyone on responsibilities.
I would like to say it was because I had been sick. But, alas it all came together. It was my first time to MC the event and I was
actually a little nervous about that, keeping the flow going, making
announcements and introducing people. It
went smoothly. Also, our person doing
our dynamic….or icebreaker, was out, so I planned one and Kenia helped me pull
it off. Seily did an excellent lesson on
the church and I heard several good comments afterwards. This lesson was definitely more directed than
some had been. We had a smaller number
this month, about 18 with sisters and friends.
I think between May being Mother’s Day and me being out sick for several
weeks had slowed things down. The really
good news though was the fact that we had three new visitors who had never
come. One, I had remembered inviting her
earlier and I was excited she came. One
good aspect of having a smaller number, is you have a little more time to visit
with folks. So, I reconfirmed where she
lived and asked if we could come by and visit some time. Another visitor was Briseida’s mother,
Maria. Briseida comes pretty regularly,
so it was good her mother joined her.
Finally, Isela came. This is
Emily and Omar’s sister. We had been
talking with them, but have not had studies in a long time. Our final studies some time back, they had
canceled on, but we often walk by and say hello. Recently, we when passed by, they say they
are going to visit. Then, when Kelly and
Seily visited earlier in the week, Kelly said they were no longer active in
their church due some circumstances. We
are very prayerful this will open the door for their desire to come. They are such a strong family, respected in
the community and we have truly grown to love them. They said they would be glad to start back
studying and we plan to do this in the upcoming week. To have Isela come was a huge step and we are
hopeful for much more. Keep all these
ladies in your prayers. Particularly,
one lady, Celia said she liked the lesson and I invited her to go to
Salcoatitan to hear the lesson again.
Since she can’t read, I thought she might want to listen again and she
said she would be glad and even excited to go next week. We are going to see if we can work on getting
her some Bible on tape so she can listen to the word when she wants too. At times, her daughter Terry reads to her,
but Terry also works. So, it was a good
day. We didn’t get home until about
6:30. Clifton had used the time to study
with Kiki in English, working through a lesson on the World Bible School
material and Dwaine had come and gone working some at home and at church. I am not teaching this Sunday, and Dwaine nor
Clifton do not have the Lord’s Supper, so we all went to bed before too late.
