June 12, 2015

New record!  Friday was the monthly preacher's meeting.  We, Charlotte, Lucky and I, left at 7:30 so we could meet Cesar at the bus stop in Juayua at 7:55.  We had an 8:00 appointment at the mayor's office with the man we had met the day before.  When we drove up he was about to walk in so he just got in the car and went with us to the house of a man who had an empty house in Juayua.  His house was really beautiful but of course he lived there.  He had lived in the states for 25 yrs. and spoke good English.  We followed him to a house near by that was empty.  It was a large two story house that was in really good condition.  It had a large living room/dining room with a pretty bar separating the kitchen from the rest of the room.  There was a really large bedroom down stairs with a large adjoining bathroom with shower.  There was a small patio out back downstairs.  Upstairs there were two more large bedrooms and another nice bathroom with shower.  There was also a roof area out back upstairs which you could walk out on like a patio but it was not covered.  It was in super great condition and we loved it.  But unfortunately he wanted $500 per month.  We said we had a budget of $300 and he said he would think about it a couple of days and let us know.  Then we went to look at a location to have the English classes when the Huntsville group is here but it was too small and not very clean and not in a good location.  Charlotte mentioned that the house we looked at would work great for the English classes because between the upstairs and the downstairs there were 4 rooms large enough for classes.  Then we dropped the man back off at the mayor's office and headed to the preacher's meeting.   We were a few minutes late but they had not started yet.  Charlotte had gotten in back when we picked up the man from the mayor's office so she had stayed back there and let Cesar ride up front.  The road was really curvy and by the time we got there we were wishing she were up front.  When we arrived there was no room left to park except beside the road and that did not look safe.  Cesar asked the folks next to the church if we could park in their driveway and they said yes.  Then we got into the longest meeting so far.  Someone came and asked about 11:50 when we would finish and Osvaldo, who chairs the meetings, said 12:30.  We actually finished at 1:45!!!  4 hrs and 45 minutes- a new record long.  They spent a very long time discussing a difficult situation about a preacher here who misused some funds and refuses to repent and still is preaching at a church here.  This issue has now consumed almost all of one meeting and over half of 2 others and still no solution.  Anyway we headed back to Juayua after eating some cow hoof soup (yum!) and had to go through some pea soup fog.  We could hardly see at all for most of the trip but finally made it.  We went by the mayor's office to try to meet with him for a few minutes but he was too busy so we treated ourselves to some ice cream to make up for lunch.  Then we headed back to Juayua.  Lucky went out to help with the Friday night kids event but Charlotte and I stayed home and had dinner and rested some.  What a day.  Sorry there were no pictures because the memory card got left at home in the computer. Happy 9th month birthday to baby Charlotte!
