School was out for a short vacation and Juayua
has been celebrating all week with the gastronomica going every day and vendors
out and about. It should all climax this
weekend and things will be back to normal.
There are a lot of people in town for tourism. Because Arnoldo was out of school, he asked
to go on my studies. Also, we had one
visitor, Tanya, here for the week. Seily
and Mario had gone to Honduras to visit their son, so, they had a young girl, Tanya,
to come and house sit. She was from San Salvador and was only 20. I wish she could have gotten to know Leanna
while she was here since they were the same age. I was glad they could join me
for the company. Claudia was our first
stop. Because of the school break, she
was going out shopping with her mom.
This is like, ‘shopping’….this is like buying corn and supplies to make
tortillas to sale for the day. So, we
walked down to Tatiana’s. She was a bit
under the weather and we talked about postponing the study for now. She will study when she feels okay, but never
comes to any of the services. We are
trying to work on the new contacts, so we will probably wrap up a few studies
and just try to visit and keep the door open, with much prayer for a repentant
heart. That is a very difficult
decision. We utilized the remaining time
to hand out invitations to the ladies event on Saturday. We covered a lot of ground and connected with
several people. It was a good time to
get to know Tanya better and it had been a long time since I had been out with
Arnoldo. Cesar and Dwaine were finishing
up after a visit with Mr. Rivas, so we went back to town to visit some of the
contacts he had from Marco Tulio. First,
we went down an ally to visit with a lady, but she was not home, only her
daughter. The next man was home and he
worked in a school and knew we had taught English at the school last year. In a matter of moments he had us lined up for
an Independence Day Program and some teaching, but it was all talk. We will be in the States September 15 for
their Independence Day, but Cesar may participate. As far as the English goes, we have not had
much success with the English and therefore do not want to make any commitments
along that line. It was mostly talk
though. Next, we went to visit a man who
was washing his truck bed. He was
willing to listen while he worked, but he said he was very busy in his business
and really did not have time to study.
At the end of the conversation he got a call and he said he would be off
to meet him in 5 minutes. I guess we
just wrapped up that visit. Arnoldo had
planned to come back to our house for lunch, but Tanya went home with Cesar to
have lunch with Eliza and Cesar and Abi.
After lunch, we took Arnoldo home and went to Selectos to buy for a meal
for Friday night with Ana and George.
They were coming to a study at 2:30 and we wanted to invite them for
dinner also. I guess the purchases were
assuming that they could come. At 2:30,
they came and we got great news. We
talked to them about the cost of discipleship and then asked them if they would
consider getting married if we helped them with their event. When we began to share about that
possibility, they started giggling. I
had already talked to Ana about this, so I don’t think they were surprised. While we said they could let us know, once the
giggles started, I knew the answer. We
have tentatively set the date for 21st of August. That is a Sunday and we will have to skip
Salcoatitan to pull of that one for their evening service. We are prayerful, their marriage will bring
them a step closer to making a decision for Christ. They finished about 5:15
and we had a study at 6. Dwaine still
took them home for about 30 before we would be back to pick them up. This week we were meeting at Jose and Kelly’s. Cesar led a study from Matthew and Kelly
fixed some hot potatoes to share with everyone.
Yummy! It was a good night of
fellowship. Omar, Gisela, Emilet and
Xiomara did not make it to the study and we had planned to study afterwards, so
we went by their home afterwards.
Xiomara’s brother had come over for a visit and so they had
company. We got to meet him and planned
to drop by on Friday afternoon to have some time together. It was raining pretty good by the time we got
home, so it was good to settle in for the night.
Day out with Tanya!
