CRAZY DAY. I slept
pretty good most of the night after being so tired from moving but around 2 am
there was another earthquake tremor and I stayed awake for a while after that. Then at 5 we heard loud very animated voices
that at first we thought were someone’s radio.
But as they continued we realized they were outside. I got up and looked and the street was full
of people. Mar. 1 is Election Day here
and the polls opened at 5 am. Throughout
the rest of the day the entire town of Ataco passed by our door. Our new house is directly across from the
school which is also the only voting place in Ataco. At about 7 the police knocked on our door and
said I would have to move the car. I had
parked it outside because there was still lots of stuff in the garage from
moving. They were really nice but said I
would have to move it around the corner because no cars could be in the section
of the street where the voting was because of all the people. So for the rest of the day we had to go to
the corner and down the side street to get to the car. So we went to morning services and Charlotte
helped with the children’s class again.
Rachel and all the Cortez children were there for the first time since
we got here. That was so good to see and
they were mentioned a couple of times by different speakers. Then we came home and had lunch and did some
more unpacking and rested some. Because
she did not go out with the teen girls today Charlotte was going to the Ataco
service with me but we got a call about 3:30 from Cesar that he and Oswaldo
were on their way to our house. Cesar
and Eliza had a refrigerator that they bought about a year ago but had decided
was too big for them. We had a smaller
one that Caleb and Della bought when they got here and we had agreed to swap
since we have been used to a larger one and have been and hope to continue to
have lots of people in our home for meals.
They said they would arrive at 5 so we went on to Ataco but left about
4:30 to run by the market and get home by the time they got here. We wanted to feed them since there were only
two. Anyway, they called at 5 and said
they were at the Ataco meeting place. We
said we were at home so they came on over.
Turned out there were ELEVEN people in a double cab pick-up along with
the refrigerator. Oswaldo’s father, the
El Salvador patriarch preacher was with them and was speaking in Juayua at 7:00
and they had brought several older teens and one lady with them all the way
from Santa Anna. Well, Charlotte pulled
out everything she could find and heated it up or cooked it and we had enough
for everyone to have a good meal. That
was the most people we have fed at once so far and it happened with our house
in disarray from moving. Then we all
went to Juayua and Br. Auzcena gave a great message on The Elect in Jesus. We returned home around 9 to find the
barriers down but the street in front of our house JAM PACKED with HUNDREDS OF
PEOPLE!!!!! They were chanting slogans
and shouting like crazy. Somehow I
managed to park the car in front of our door and we squeezed through a throng
of people to get into our house. We went
up on the balcony and had the perfect place to watch the activities for a
while. We were concerned about the car but it was just a place for lots of
people to lean against and seems to have survived ok. We finally got tired and tried to go to bed
about 11 but the activities continued till about 2 am. What a day for our first full day in our new
house- but all is well.
Extremely early line up to vote.
Unexpected, but absolutely delightful guests for dinner.
Lot's of Young People from Ahuachapan going to Juayua.
Election Crowd from our balcony that chanted until 4:30 a.m.
Wish I could post the sounds!!!!
Hope the car survives!
