On our walk this morning we dropped off some items to be copied. They said to come back in ½ hr. so we went
for our walk and then while Charlotte went by Selectos to get a few items I
walked back over to the copy place with Wicket.
When I got there Omar's father was there and he mentioned that there
were some houses we might could look at and we set a time for about 5 pm. When we got back home we headed out to knock
some more doors on our end of town. The
first lady we spoke to let us come in for a visit. Her name was Ana Catalina and she had a sad
story indeed. Her grandson who was 17
had grown up with her since his parents were not together but his mother does
live in another part of Juayua. Anyway,
about 7 months ago he left her house to walk over to his mother's house and
disappeared and has never been heard from since. It was on a Friday and by Saturday night they
contacted the police here but to no avail.
She was still grieving about it as we talked so we prayed for her and
shared a few verses of Scripture. This same day we learned El Salvador’s murder
rate for October was 676. We are often
in prayer for the country. The next lady
we visited turned out to be Zuleyma husband's sister. We had a good visit with her and she said we
were welcome to come back when we could.
She and her husband do attend a church but she said she did not mind
studying with us if she was home. The
next lady only spoke to us at her door and we gave her some literature. Then we headed out to the mayor's office to
ask about using the basketball court that is down the street from our house for
the activity we are planning for the children and ladies on the 24th. He said we needed to check with the
president of the community association in our neighborhood but that they could
supply 75 chairs for the event if we submitted a written request. When we got back to our house Charlotte went
in to make lunch and Cesar and I walked over to Kelly's because Jose was
involved in the association for our neighborhood. She told us where the lady lived that the
mayor's office had given us the name of.
She said our landlord had been the head of the association not too long
ago. The lady lived just down the street
so we walked over to her house and she said there was no problem with using the
court if it was for a church function.
After lunch we went by and tried to visit Sara but she was not home so
we went by to try to visit the teen girl who lives near Regina that we had left
a tract with last week but she was not home either. So we went by Socorro's to see if she was
home. She was, so Charlotte went ahead
and studied with her and I left the car with her and walked home. On my way I passed through the street market
and picked up some flowers for the lady who had lost her grandson (Charlotte's idea). At about 4:30 Charlotte arrived with Socorro
who wanted to look at the houses with us.
Omar's dad walked up soon after and we walked to one house that was in
our area but was really isolated and had no appearance of security and did not
look all that nice. Then we drove by a
couple of other houses but had no keys to get in. The last house looked pretty good and we are
supposed to get to see the inside Saturday morning and find out how much the
rent is. Will keep you posted. Ha.
We rounded out the day with a study with our landlord. This time his wife and son came with
him. She is supposed to be very Catholic
and she did not really pay much attention to the study but he did and said it
was really good. We studied about the
origin of sin and misery. Sounds like
fun. Anyway, he seems to be really
interested and we are hopeful. One funny
note, he said he was still technically the president of the neighborhood
association but that it was also fine with him whatever we wanted to do.
Functioning Regina Sewing Machine....lot's of homemade purses to show for it.
Home we looked at....but unsafe area.
