November 17, 2015

I’ve got a mansion, just over the hilltop…well, close.  Tuesday we met at nine to hand out flyers for the event at the open basketball court next week in Juayua.  Dwaine and Cesar headed one direction and Arnoldo and I went another.  It was fun to talk to so many people and we got lots of interest.  Two ladies standing in the street talked for a little while and I told them there would be refreshments and one jumped in and said, “Ice cream?”  Nice try, but it will be tamales and coffee.  We gave one man tending a garden in front of a large house a flyer and he was really nice too.  We went to the end of the street and on our return he invited us into the house.  It was amazing.  He was the caretaker and the owner lives in the U.S.  There were three floors, with the top floor having an incredible view.  The bottom floor, or basement, was unfinished.  It was so open and even had a bath tub.  I loss count, but it probably had 8 bedrooms.  We laughed and said this one would probably be $1000 per month at best.  It was out of our budget, but fun to get to see.  We finished all of our area and headed home in time to meet Dwaine and Cesar to go to the bank for a little business for the church and personal accounts.  As it had stood, it took three signatures to withdraw from the church account and only I could withdraw from our personal account.  We wanted three people on the church account, but with only two necessary signatures to sign and we really wanted Dwaine to be able to withdraw from our personal account.  After about 30 minutes, we got everything straight.  Arnoldo came home with us for lunch.  On the way home, we stopped by the ‘mansion’ and the caretaker gave Dwaine a tour as well.  He was impressed too.  I had made some lentil soup, so there was plenty for lunch.  Afterwards, we headed f or Sara’s house, but Carlitos was home alone and said him mom was working.  We left some food with him and said we would come on Wednesday.  Then, I went to Socorro’s and studied with her.  We visited about 30 minutes and then studied.  She said that she had a similar surgery years ago that Sister Regina will have on Wednesday.  She said she continued to have trouble for quite some time, but was doing fair now.  We wrapped up the study about 4 after Dwaine returned.  He and Cesar had put out more flyers during our study and visited with Mr. Rivers.  Next, we hurried on home because our landlord, Mr. Santos, was going to bring his family for dinner.  He was due to arrive at six.  They came about 6:15 and for the first time his older son came to our home as well.  We had ‘Italian’ night for dinner….pizza, spaghetti, salad and roasted veggies.  The new stove sure helped the meal come together.  Afterwards, we watched part of a DVD on the Bible. They were all really excited about the ‘movie.’  We used Caleb’s projector and the landlord said we should show this in the park for everyone.  It was a good night and we enjoyed the great company to start the film.  On the way out, the landlord said that one room of his adjoining vacant apartment could be made into a garage.  We will have to think about these possibilities.
