Down day and pupusas. We have
both come down with colds. I started
last Thursday and Charlotte Friday night-just in time for her to have a
terrible sore throat for her presentation in Santa Tecla. Today is the Day of the Dead in El Salvador
and the banks and many businesses are closed and Carlos decided it would
probably be better to change our weekly meeting to a different day. I took the car back to the garage so they
could work some more on the bumpers.
They got them sanded down and ready for painting but said they could not
buy the paint because the store was closed and would have to finish on Tuesday
morning. About 10 Nelson knocked on our
door and he had a man with him. The man
was a traveling ac repairman. He carried
all his equipment with him. Nelson had
told him our car had ac problems and brought him to have a look at it. The garage is 50 yards away so we walked down
and he got out his testing equipment and after checking he said it must have
just a really small leak so he should be able to fix it by putting in some
sealant. He said he needed to buy two
cans and they were $20 each so I advanced him $40. He said he would only charge $10 more for
putting them in on Wednesday morning. I
showed him the dash which had been put back together badly by the other place
and he said he could fix that and the squeaking it now makes for $5 more and I
said I would gladly give $10 for that work and we laughed. Nelson said he had total confidence in him so
I took his word for it. The ac man left but Nelson went back to our house for a
visit and we gave him some Pepsi (his favorite drink) and some desert left over
from lunch yesterday. Cesar drove up and
said he had scheduled a study with Mario.
Charlotte was feeling pretty bad and he had not called to say he was
coming so he and I went and we also dropped Nelson off in town on the way. Mario now is staying with his family who live
on the road that leads to the waterfalls.
Two different large groups came through while we were studying (his
brothers work as guides to the falls).
One group was dressed for swimming.
After we left Mario's we went by the flower shop and asked again about
the funeral parlor that was vacated next door and that we were considering as a
possible place for the church to meet.
This time we got to see it but it was small and not adequate. After lunch I walked over to Omar's and met
Cesar there and Omar walked up the street with us to ask about a van to rent for
our group to go to Santa Ana on Sunday.
I spoke to his father about the house that was possibly to be for rent
in December and he said the man had decided he just wanted to sell it. He only wanted $90,000. We may be where we are for a while but if so
we will survive. At 6 Charlotte and I
met Nelson at Regina's. He had invited
us to come to his house to have pupusas tonight and he lives down the steps
behind Regina's. It was a little funny
that we had been told never to go down the steps because it was not safe due to
gang activities and here we were going the first time in the dark. Of course, we were fine and had a good
time. There were several relatives there
and we enjoyed visiting with them and the pupusas were great. After we got back home and while we were
skyping with the kids there was another downpour of rain. Glad we got home before it came.
Dinner at Nelson's
Great evening!
Sanded bumpers still need painting.
