Making the best of a bad situation.
We are trying to have Fridays off but today was the day of our event in
Salcoatitan. We did take the morning
off. We went for our walk and then we
came home and worked on some items Charlotte needed for her ladies class this
afternoon and got ready to visit Regina.
Zuleyma came by for a few minutes she was needing some help to get some
pain medication for her mother. She said
she would have to take the bus to Sonsonate to get it. We still had a little left from what had been
donated by Central folks so we were thankful to have this resource to help her
in her recovery. Pretty soon after she
left we headed on over to visit her. Charlotte made a meal for the family and
heated it up before we left. She was in
bed when we got there but doing pretty good.
She said she had not rested much during the night because of pain but
was in pretty good spirits. Her mother
and sister Sonya were there from Apaneca.
We stayed about 45 minutes and then ran by the bank on the way home
because David had brought the rest of our funds for this year. After lunch brother Ricardo came by and
picked up all our plastic chairs to use at the event. We headed out about 1:45 and as we turned
down the road into the area we were going to we saw Ricardo's truck just ahead
of us. It was pretty rough going and I
got the car stuck but a couple of the brothers just lifted up some on the front
corner where the wheel was stuck and it came right out. It had started raining as we were arriving
and never stopped the rest of the afternoon.
It was never really hard but definitely more than a drizzle. We had to set the canopies up in the rain and
we all got pretty wet. We were afraid
the entire event would be a wash out but in the end it was pretty good. We had 35 kids and 11 ladies to come and all
went about as well as possible under the circumstances. It actually was a lot better than I had
expected with the weather being so bad.
We were on a dirt road and it got pretty slippery but we made it out ok
though. We did have to get Ricardo's truck unstuck also. When we got home I saw the landlord pass by
and so I asked him to come in for a few minutes. We told him of our idea of renting the
adjoining 3 small room living area and he said the house next door actually
rented for $175 per month but that if we could do $350 for both he would
definitely make it happen. Our budget
for rent is $300 but we were paying $375 in Ataco and getting by ok. We just
have to decide if this is what we want to do because we can stay where we are
for $200 per month and just keep looking for something else. We said we would have to look at the other
house again and then come to a final decision. He did not have a key with him
so we are supposed to go by and pick it up from his store in the morning and
look at it again then. We had passed Socorro
on our way to Salcoatitan and she said that she had seen a house for rent that
was nice but did not have a garage. We
are supposed to meet her at 10 in the morning to look at it and then get the
key to the one next door on the way home.
Interesting.
