Graduation
Day! Today is the big event! This is the day to honor our teachers and
students and to meet families. Yes, all
these things came together in a grand event.
So many people worked to pull this off.
Lisabeth did all the decorations, I cooked the food and ordered two
cakes, Dwaine got all the tables, chairs, drinks and cakes. And the team worked like crazy to complete all
the last minute details. Wow, it was
great. We had about 60 people to come
and everyone took tons of pictures, made comments, joined in the refreshments
and hopefully, have decided to continue with their English in our ongoing
classes. Most important, several
relationships have formed so that we can share the gospel in increasing measure
beyond the many seeds that have already been planted. Everyone was just amazing. We are truly blessed by the hard work of the
teachers and the depth of friendships that have started. After the graduation, we all headed over to
one of the families that have been coming.
They live in a home next to the Reptile Exhibit and sell chocofruits and
plants. They invited us in and the
mother was so sweet. She wanted me to
see her entire home and in the back yard she showed me her son’s handiwork of
growing corn, orchids and many other plants.
Jim had given Omar a Bible earlier in the week and we had the
opportunity to present a Bible to his two sisters who had also attended the
class. Wow, it was tremendous. The group split afterwards and one group
headed to Ciudad Real and one group headed to Ataco. Dwaine headed out to take chairs back to
Shucutitian. Luis and Roberto took the
younger crew and me back to Ataco. When
we arrived to Ataco, I told Luis and Roberto they could let us off at the
entrance and we could walk to our house.
I thought they were going to Ciudad Real as well. But, they were just going to wait on us. When Dwaine said other arrangements had been
made, he headed back up to have them join us.
They were just napping. That was
funny. Anyway, we took the group
shopping and to visit the cemetery. It
is always interesting. Then, we went to
the House of Coffee for dinner. There
was a group from Texas and Nebraska that had been building concrete houses for
Habitat for Humanity. They were really
friendly and we had quite a good visit. Then
we headed out for Juayua. One note that
Jasmine had been sick and had missed the graduation. It was great that she felt like getting out
for the afternoon and was much improved.
We had a great turnout for our evening service and Manual Azucena gave
the lesson. We had a class full of
children, so Allison stayed to help me.
One family that we had taken food too, came again to the class and the
mom said she came back because her son wanted to come back to the Sunday school
class! I was so excited about that. Since their youngest child takes a little
care, the older daughter came to care for him.
It was a great evening and we headed home with one last stop at
Selectos.
