Cake
anyone? Yes, I could say there was another earthquake, but we didn’t feel
itJ. There’s probably enough of that. While I usually stay after
church in Shucutitan for the teen girls, we decided to have all the teens over
to the house for lunch since Clifton is here. I think about 25
came. It was funny because during Saturday night the electricity went off.
I cooked a big batch of frijoles in the crock pot, so it went a long time
without cooking. I tried them on ‘high’ and they seemed to be good by
lunchtime. Dwaine cooked up some hot dogs and we had plenty. It was
good to have so many over, but our apartment house isn’t really designed for
big crowds. Everyone left not too long after lunch, so we rested a little
bit. We left for Juayua a little early because we wanted to buy a
birthday cake for Abi’s first birthday. First, we went to Anthony’s….the
biggest bakery in Juayua. But, because it was the weekend festival for
eating, they were out. Next, we passed a smaller bakery and they did have
cakes, but only small. At least we had a ‘recourse’ if we couldn’t find
anything else. We went through the Dispensa, an offshoot of Walmart, but
they only had small cakes too. By now we were running out of time, so we
hit one more place….Selectos of course. They had one big cake left
trimmed in pink and traditional fruits on top….perfect. Dwaine and Clifton
took the cake and walked over to Sister Regina’s and Brother Pedro’s.
Pedrito and I went to pick up Kelly and her two children. Just as we were
loading up, Jose arrived from San Salvador. Kelly’s daughter, Kelly….also called Nicole, had on a really pretty dress. In just a
moment, he was ready and we all went to church. Kelly’s daughter, Kelly….also called Nicole, had on a really pretty dress. Kelly, the mother, said she had made this. I asked where she
got the material and she said that she bought material in Sonsonate. I asked if she could take me some time and -she said yes! I can’t wait for this…..love looking at material, but so much more to
develop a friendship. Omar and Gisela from English class came as well. And,
Nelson came also. So we had 7 visitors! Eliza parents came, so Mr.
Azucena preached a really good sermon. Then, afterwards we had cake for
Abi. Everyone stayed, visitors and members. There was just enough
cake and the fellowship was great. Regina said afterwards that her sister
was sick in the hospital in Ahuachapan, so we planned to visit Monday
morning. Awhile back, we used to see her on our street corner selling
clothes. She had lost her house of 30 years and was just renting.
She wants to move to Apaneca close to her mother and worship with us. We
are in prayer for her. She has bronchitis. We also got to talk to
Nelson about studying. We are going to try to come an hour early on
Saturdays to study with him before English class, so we will start that study
with him next week. We are also planning to stop by our three English
students that have visited and see if we might can start a study with English
using the Bible with them next week. They said they usually buy food for
their shop early in the week, so we will stop by Wednesday. What a
day! We almost can’t keep up, but we know God will provide the time and
energy for his kingdom to grow.
